NEW YORK FASHION WEEK HIGHLIGHTS: THE SHOW VIDEOS

Posted by the Fashion Junior at Large

In the run up to London Fashion Week our thoughts are very much technology focused - how will we teach ourselves to blog from a Blackberry in 2 days? Where can we access wireless internet at Somerset House? And most importantly, what exactly can we expect from LFW's Digital Schedule? Fashion Editor at Large will fill you in on all the details later today, but I can tell you the initiative will stream live catwalk shows as they happen at the venues. This is obviously the done thing this season, as designers across the pond have been screening their shows online and on giant screens in Times Square for New York Fashion Week.

Step forward Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang...

Will this be the only way we view fashion shows a year or so down the line? This is a question New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn dissected for Style.com over the weekend:

' Nick Knight and I had a very interesting conversation around Christmas time about fashions shows, magazines, the future of a lot of things, and he was saying that it’s a medium; the way of people showing their clothes, it’s still the best way of doing it. We would all like to think that Alexander McQueen, or Giorgio Armani if he wanted to, any big name, could beam their show directly onto the Internet. They’re already doing that, and do what McQueen did [at his Spring 2010 ready-to-wear show], which is create something truly special for the Internet. So you can have this really incredible thing, something that feels that it’s just for people on the Web, and it kind of bypasses the professionals. People who are outsiders, quote unquote, or non-professionals, can participate.'

Nick Knight's SHOWstudio will be streaming Rodarte's AW10 show live at 5pm this afternoon. Click here to join in the fun.
